Happy Fall y’all! The season of crisp air, pumpkin spice lattes, colorful leaves & cozy sweaters. Also the flu. Yes, I have recently returned from the wheezing woodshed of coughs, cringes, and other unmentionables. It’s no fun, but it got me thinking.
Here are my top 5 reasons why Wellness really is the New Black (and why it should stay that way):
If you got health, you got it all
If you’re healthy, the world is your oyster. Sure, all of us have limitations of one sort or another but if you’re healthy, those limitations become smaller; more surmountable. With any kind of health impairment, carrying out ordinary every day tasks becomes a struggle. This can be severely limiting.
Prevention is better than cure
Daily yoga practice or hip replacement surgery? While on the face of it, most people would choose the former over the latter in theory, these kinds of realizations are surfacing in polite conversation with encouraging regularity. Knowing isn’t (yet) the same as doing, but if you had to wake up every morning look at a picture of yourself 40 years from now, what would you see? Think about it.
It’s a Lifestyle!
I can’t imagine my day without all my little (or not so little) wellness routines. I try to do something for my wellbeing at least 3x a day. Be it a work out class in the morning, an essential oils infused drink as a pick me up in the afternoon, or a meditation session before bed. And although not everyone is a wellness enthusiast like me, everyone has time for a little health – and a little black dress.
I met some of my closest friends in the wellness world. Be it during my yoga teacher training, my Young Living Essential Oils journey or Pilates. If wellness is the pathway to your best self, it only follows that you’ll find some of the most quality coaches, friends and mentors available traveling in that direction too.
Up next for me on this friendship upgrade saga: NYC’s Well Summit on October 5th & 6th! The event is jam-packed with panelists and speakers from in all areas of wellness. I can’t wait to be in the same room with legends such as Liz Plosser, the Editor-In-Chief of Women’s Health or Ksenia Avdulova, founder of Breakfast Criminals. I like the odds. Having trouble getting your mindset right? A strong workout regiment is the ultimate way to get even the most stubborn of runaway monkey brains headed in a more useful direction. If your brain is a mushy, programable CPU, physical wellness is the ultimate hack!
